JWconsultingCo: My Fu Manchu for the Manuary Contest, Raising Money to Fight Prostate Cancer

Microgiving, a great community to help show support for almost anything through crowd sourcing and social fund raising. I am not sure if that is how found John Ferber, also Pikesville High School graduate and much more in the spotlight than me. You might remember John as the gung ho kid doing a documentary on Skid Row that turned out to be the Secret Millionaire on the ABC reality show. That is a dream come true to be able to take your good fortune from hard work and decide who is working hard and deserves a break because we can all use one occasionally.

I was not going to grow a mustache ever but…

Well I started off the year with the intention of shaving yesterday and then this happened… I remembered that my Baltimore Ravens can use some support and Joe Flacco has been growing a Fu Manchu for a few weeks now. I figured, why not show support by growing my own Fu Manchu. This progressed a bit when I showed my wife and she first said… ewe, and then “are you growing that for the Manuary contest?” I hadn’t though about it and as disappointed last year because I was not able to participate due to anti facial hair requirements outside of my control. And no it was not the Donnie Brosco, no facial hair in the mafia, rule.

We here we are, day 6 of growth and the Fu Manchu appeared yesterday via some strategic shaving. I would love if you can show your support and help me by liking my Fu Manchu on Facebook HERE and also donating by clicking the picture below.

A $5 contribution gets you a signed copy of my Fu Manched Mug!

JWconsultingCo: The Data Diplomat Delivers Another Useful Solution

If All The Retailers Have Holiday Stuff Out

Do we have a deal for you brought to you by the Data Diplomat. I have three questions followed up by three more and then you decide where to get cards from this year.

Set 1:

- Are you sending out cards this year for the holidays?
- is there a yearly office committee or some poor soul responsible for the whole ordeal?
- does the whole holiday card process give you nots and leaving you wishing there was a solution?

If you answered no to any of these you must work in a very nice place. Those that answer yes should go to set 2…

Set 2:

- Do you have time to manage a holiday card project?
- Will you skip the cards based on budget dollars?
- Is the whole office going to help sign, stuff, address, and mail the cards?

If you answered yes to any of the questions in set 2 then it is confirmed, you work in the best office ever. It is a well known fact that 9 out of 10 people will answer no to the questions yet confirming the need for help.

What you need in order to take advantage of the deal…

- A need for an efficient solution
- Addresses of each party receiving the card and who signs the card
- 30 minutes to discuss your project so the designer has an idea of your vision

You will also need to provide photos and proof the card but other than that, we are in good shape for a smooth holiday card season.

Delivery And Format Options

The choice is your if you mail first class or standard and we have deadlines for each. The last thing we want to do is hurry up those that need more time or slow down the ones that are ready to get moving. There is a price advantage to standard or bulk mail and the cost is faster preparation. The voice is yours and the Data Diplomat is going to make sure to meet the schedule most appealing to the client.

Well I wish this solution was around when I was in a big office. If you recognize the holiday card issues and want to save the hassles and headaches, give the Data Diplomat a call at 303-981-2494 or email info@thedatadiplomat.com

JWconsultingCo: Who knows the answer to these questions?

Who knows a lot about areas to live and neighborhoods, and the good schools?

A Realtor usually has that sort of information and if you already successfully worked with one, you probably pay attention to the mail they send. Baseball schedules and holiday card give you a reason to stay on someones mind when the time comes to pass along a referral. When you purchase a house through a real estate agent with a good process, you receive mailings and information that you could live without but it is nice to have around.

When something goes wrong at your house, who can you call?

Most of the time your Realtor is able to assist with at least a number to call. If the fence falls down and you need a quote, there are people to rely on and others that make sure you know who they are. Real estate agents are able to connect with a lot of people and provide information pertinent to your home and the community.

When you are moving, who do you contact?

The person you bought the house from if all went well with that transaction. You might know someone to call and there might be a Realtor within your group of friend so there are a lot of choices. The person that you rely on when the time comes is most likely someone you trust and takes the time to send you a birthday card or newsletter about the real estate climate in your town.

Relationships are back and we want to help build lasting relationships between our clients and their customers. It is nice to stay in touch and nice to hear about what is going on around town. Marketing walks a fine line and you are almost always safe when you tell your audience something they care about as opposed to bragging about your latest success.

Answer This… Who Benefits From The Newsletter?

Easy if the information is presented correctly… everyone. Give people what they want and be sure they knowing came for you. This is the easiest way to create likes or followers because you provide what they want so they are happy to get it from you.

JWconsultingCO: Look At This WordPress Plug In

WordPress Is Great… Easy Repost Plug In

This is a new way to get the word out and not hassle too much distribution. The plug in is called Report.us and it seems pretty nifty. The only thing you need to do is add an embedded code into your site and there you have it. I did that below with a post from the Data Diplomat blog and it works pretty well.

JWconsulting: The Future Is Now… Holy Data Abilities!

This picture says it all. The neighborhood outlined is claimed to have 1,400+ homes and the count is accurate. The neighborhood is within the boundaries of the box and that is how I made the custom polygon. The data can be drilled down to age, income, presence of children and all other sorts of things. We are able to get loan information and all that good public record information but that is not the cool part.

The ability to map and the super low minimum orders. I cannot think of anything that was keeping good business from occurring within the list industry more than high minimum orders. Oh and the second issue… custom creation of boarders more sophisticated than radius mapping, zip codes, SCFs, or other geographic mapping. I suspect Google is involved, they usually are…

JWconsulting: How Do You Sell Efficiently?

We Have Created A Solution and Need To Sell It

This is a common problem and a lot of time the answer is resources. This time the approach to the answer was addressed differently and the results are good. Spending a short amount of time developing and disseminating this video to the client not only saved time for our company it provides a clear consise overview of the program for the client.

It is a Win Win

This is true because we are able to free up resources and focus on development. The win for the clients their ability to gain and understanding of the process without too much needless detail and my rambling at a meeting. Providing information this way allows for a better conversation as follow up where the in depth questions are asked.

JWconsultingCO: What’s Up with the Weird Weather

The Weather in Denver Has Sure Been Weird Lately…

This video was more fun to shoot because I did it on my iPhone. I also downloaded Tungle.me to share my calendar and help coordinate meetings and appointments. I have also found all of my favorite camera effects plus some more photo apps as you can see in the last post. The Constant Contact app is great and the social media applications like Facebook and LinkedIn are far better than the Android version.

I Am Not In The Club But…

I get some respect from people that have been Apple mavens since the early days and I know my way around a Mac. I have an iPod touch and love playing with the iPad if there is nothing better to do but I am not in the club. I am heavily dedicated to PC purely for Database activities. There are a number of people that build programs and applications and even run databases from their Macs, I just do not agree.

Everything has a purpose and Excel belongs on a PC or an amped up Mac with a Windows operating system. The point that has nothing to do with the video or anything for that matter is that I love my new Verizon iPhone and I do not mind the lack of talk/internet combo since I think the people on the phone deserve my full attention anyway.

I remember the point… The iPhone Takes Great Video!

JWconsultingCo: Demand Generation, I Call It Database Marketing, It Is All the Same?!?!

The New Buzz, or So It Seems

There is always something new when it comes to data and the buzz I keep hearing about is Demand Generation. There are companies that sell processes with a focus on generating leads and creating the right target. This is great stuff and useful for all business because it includes information on how people act or purchase goods and services is extremely important.

Don’t Be So Affected by Shinny Things… What Is It Really?

Call me old fashioned but I think this Demand Generation stuff is Direct Marketing and Database Marketing with, honestly, a cooler name. The bottom line is that the cooler name does not make it better, more intelligent, more sophisticated or most importantly, more accurate. If you need leads, think logically about the people you are trying to reach. What those people do, what do they read, and what are the behaviors of someone in their position. You do not need a fancy title or replace old processes with a new arsenal of tactics to accomplish your goals.

One Action Triggers Another

Automatic Marketing is the name for this process and again it is important aspect of a good marketing plan. Someone signs up for something or registers and receives a welcome message, email, or even direct mail. Actions trigger actions and data is entered into the database and hopefully analyzed to help with future decisions. The better the data the better the decisions and so on.

Data, the Tricky Part

What is good data, what makes it good, and how do you even know? We when it comes to self-reported data you have to think about the people self-reporting. Do you always tell the truth when answering surveys and would you rely on everyone else telling the truth? What about using transactional data, the money data in my opinion? When you have a transaction, something occurred and when you know something happened, there is an opportunity to report on it.  There is a lot of smoke and mirrors these days also and it is important to understand the source of the data you use.

All I’m Sayin’…

Be careful when buy, renting, leasing, or licensing data and know the source. If you do not understand, make sure you ask more questions. It is easy to get lost when dealing with an unknown and it is important to trust the experts.
